I got Shiloh this doggy bed for my office because there's no carpet in there. I've realized now that it's a bit cruel when I am working and look over to see her snoozing away.
Scott and I have been trying to give Decker more responsibility lately. He loves helping me cook and on this day, we were making spaghetti while Kressa napped.
Sickness update. I continued to feel horrible all week and then yesterday, I woke up having some sinus pain, which made me suspect that I had a sinus infection. Plus, my cough was still horrible. I went into urgent care on Friday afternoon, and amazingly, I got right in. (I was worrying about going over the weekend, because I figured it would be packed.) The doctor prescribed me some antibiotics. I'm still not feeling great, but at least my cough has died down a little. I hope the antibiotics kick in soon!
Once Kressa's fever went away, she still continued to have a pretty bad cough. The worst time was at night, when she would wake up crying, gagging and sometimes, throwing up. (She threw up a little bit last night.) This morning, I decided to take her to the doctor and he said he could hear mucus in her lungs, so he prescribed antibiotics and a couple of different medicines to use in her nebulizer. So, hopefully, she will be at 100% soon too!
Decker has not gotten sick, but that doesn't surprise me too much since that kid has the strongest immune system I've ever seen.
I guess the bright spot was the kids "practicing" before we headed to Kressa's doctor appointment.
A couple of weeks ago, Decker mentioned something to me about a tooth behind his other teeth. At the time, I was preoccupied and didn't really understand what he meant. Fast forward to a week ago when he opened his mouth and I saw that his new bottom tooth had already come in behind his baby teeth! Of course, I immediately hopped on Google and read that this is fairly common and the best thing to do is have the child try to wiggle the baby tooth and see if it will come out.
The tooth was pretty loose, so I told Decker to keep wiggling it and if it didn't come out, we'd have to take him to the dentist to get it pulled. He really didn't want to go to the dentist, but as the week went on, it still hadn't fallen out, so I was planning on calling the dentist on Tuesday. Last night, I took a look and realized it had basically come out, but was just sitting in the space still. I think we were both relieved it came out on its own! Unfortunately, with being sick this week, I was not prepared at all to act as "tooth fairy," so I had to tell Decker that it was too late and that the tooth fairy had already left with all of the money for all the kids. Instead, she would visit him the next night. Luckily, he was fine with that answer.
This is really the first tooth he's truly lost. Even though his top tooth came out, that was a result of it being hit. The new tooth is yet to make an appearance on the top.
I posted about Kressa being sick last week. I picked her up with a fever on Wednesday, and then she stayed home Thursday. Friday morning she seemed to be doing better, so I took her back in to daycare, but then they called around 2:00 and said she had a slight fever again. Thankfully she is a much better, but she still has a pretty bad cough.
Well, I wasn't able to escape. I started feeling sick on Monday and had the cough. Earlier in the day yesterday, I felt pretty bad, but actually started feeling better last night. However, this morning I woke up feeling horrible and like my head was going to explode. So, I ended up spending the day on the couch watching hours of television. Also, we've been having very cold weather, which has resulted in icy roads so Tuesday was a 2-hour late start. I feel like ever since the new year started, I'm having trouble getting back into the work mode with the holidays, sickness and the disruption to our schedule from the late start.
I'm starting to feel better, so I'm hoping I can get back in the office tomorrow and we can be done with sickness in our house for this round! (Fingers crossed!)
I know this is a few days late, but I just loved the bokeh I got from my tree.
So, here we are again, the beginning of a new year. I don't think I've ever been more ready for a year to end as I was 2016.
I have a list of resolutions nearly a mile long. I'm keeping them in a place where I can review them daily. I will say, however, that my main goal for 2017 is to establish new habits that will hopefully lead to more health, peace and simplicity in my life.
I want to focus on the kids, my own health/well being, and my career this year.
As for photography, I'd like to accomplish the following this year:
- Master Kelvin white balance
- Get in one photo per month with each of my children
- Master shooting video/editing and complete one video per month
- Review the materials from the 3 Clickin Mom workshops I have taken
- Complete at least one photo book
- Really study the manuals and master the controls for both my Fuji X100T and Nikon D750
I've gone back and forth debating a 365 project and I've come to the realization that working full time makes it nearly impossible for me to get a decent shot every single day, especially since it's already dark in the winter when I get home. For now, I'm just content shooting as much as possible.
Cheers to a prosperous 2017!
Poor Kressa. It seems she's been fighting a cold since before Christmas. Her cough was getting a lot better, but then it took a turn for the worst last night and then daycare called today and said she was running a fever. I picked her up and her temperature was 100.7 degrees and she just wanted to lay down or be held while watching tv.
I actually don't have any photos from our official first day in Puerto Vallarta because that was our travel day. However, it began with our scheduled ride to the airport not showing up. When I called to see where he was, he informed me he didn't have us on his schedule. (Can you believe it?) Luckily, we were able to catch an Uber and make it to the airport on time.
We were traveling with my brother, sister-in-law, and their 4 kids, along with another family with 4 kids and another couple with a 2-year-old. Lots of us!
Once we got to Puerto Vallarta, it took a really long time to get checked into our condo at the Grand Mayan. That night, we ended up eating dinner at the italian restaurant in the hotel.
The next morning, we hit the pool. Decker had so much fun! He spent most of the day in the wave pool and also going down the water slide. We had lots of groceries because some of the other adults had gone to Wal-Mart, so that evening, the kids decided to stay in and eat macaroni and cheese, while the adults went to La Cantina, another restaurant that was in the resort area. This was the beginning of my week of drinking delicious margaritas!
Also, even though I brought my D750 with me, I did not pull it out once, instead using my Fuji X100T. These are actually the jpgs straight out of camera. I just love that little camera!
We headed over to my parent's house in Eastern Washington for Christmas. There was snow on the ground, but it was pretty frozen, so it didn't lend itself well to playing.
I ended up videotaping the opening of the presents, which is why there are no pictures! Of course, both kids were super spoiled. Decker got a variety of gifts, including some Star Wars action figures, which he loved playing with. Kressa received a lot of Peppa Pig paraphernalia.
Jason cooked a delicious Christmas dinner of prime rib, macaroni and cheese, brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, gravy and rolls. Unfortunately, I woke up with a cold on Christmas Day, so didn't really end up eating that much of the food!
On a funny note, Decker has been watching videos of Elves on the Shelf moving at night on Youtube. He says the elves are very creepy and he has no desire to have one in our house. (Yea!)
The last two weeks have been a whirlwind! Decker and I went to Puerto Vallarta for a week, then it was back home for a day, before heading over to Moses Lake for Christmas. I caught Kressa's cold, so the last couple of days, I've noticed I've been super tired. The house is a mess with the kids' Christmas presents still in the back of my car. I am getting a new kitchen table delivered tomorrow from Pottery Barn and I have a ton of miscellaneous things to do around the house. Luckily, I decided to take tomorrow and Friday off from work, so I am hoping I can get organized before the new year!
