We decided to celebrate Decker's 1st birthday over the Christmas holiday, when more of the family could be there. His birthday presents were kind of mixed in with his Christmas presents and then we did an ice cream cake and of course, his cake smash. Since his birthday is only 10 days before Christmas, we're going to have to figure out a better way of celebrating it in the future so he doesn't get shorted! The following pictures are a mix taken with my DSLR and point and shoot. I'm sure you can tell which ones were which. But I am glad to have them all!
Clapping after everyone sang to him.
He hated his birthday hat!
Ready for the smash cake
Not feelin' it...
so I thought I'd help him out
For Christmas day, we stayed at my parents' house with my brother Jason, and brother-in-law, Nathan. Jason cooked an amazing dinner of pork, veggies, stuffing, mashed potatoes and rolls (I think that's everything.) Dessert was pie! I'm trying to improve at food photography, but it's actually pretty difficult! The strong overhead ambient lighting wasn't helping either. I have started using these free sharpening presets from Pretty Presets and I love them. A few shots from the day.
For Christmas Eve, we went over to my brother and sister-in-law's house. It was a great night of lots of food and a surprise appearance by Santa (aka Scott). Scott and I played Rock Band for the first time. I know, this game is totally old now, but we've never had a gaming system. I was able to get a new memory card for my camera, so I was back in full paparazzi mode. I used my 50mm f/1.8 for these and also my Light Scoop. Oh, and note: we always wear pajamas for Christmas Eve...we're not just all lazy.
Trying to get through editing all the old pictures I have before getting to the Christmas pictures. I took these a while back when Decker had a cold. He can be really good at entertaining himself, although when he's around me lately, he seems to want my undivided attention. I was also playing around with back button focus and I think it's really helping me get sharper images.
For this picture, I had stuck something on my head and he was imitating me here. So funny!
Yep, he had a cold.
So thankful we get to stay inside our nice warm house on a day like today, which is a good thing because Decker is coming down with another cold. We had 2 blissful weeks of him being healthy, but now the cough and runny nose have returned. Is it possible for babies to stay healthy?
Isn't he adorable when he cries?
