Another fun weekend

We have been so lucky with the beautiful weather the last few weekends.  We had another busy, but fun weekend. On Saturday we took Decker to Kidsquest Museum in Factoria.  Can I just say this place is awesome?!  They have a very large play area for kids ages 0-3 with all kinds of toys and activities.  Decker ran around with a permanent smile on his face!  I see many more trips here in the future because it is a great for him to burn some energy.

At school they have been practicing turning the pages of a book correctly and also how to put books away, so he's been enamored with turning the pages.

A couple of videos.  In the first one, you can tell how excited he is about the fish.  The 2nd one is just hilarious.

And since it was Cinco de Mayo, we made an impromptu stop at a mexican restaurant to celebrate.  Decker was such a good boy in the restaurant.  He scarfed down his quesadilla!

His vocabulary is getting so funny.  He now says "Hey, Shiloh."  He also just loves being outside.  Scott took him to the park today and then when they got home, I took him down to our neighborhood park area and he enjoyed throwing his big bouncy ball around.  He is also starting to RUN!

Sickness strikes again

Well, we had another round of sickness go through our household.  This time it was some sort of stomach bug and I'm pretty sure it originated with the usual suspect (Decker.)  He had diarrhea for about a week and was teething.  Then he passed it along to me, causing me to miss 3 days of work last week and now it is onto Scott.  However, I think we're finally at the tail end of it!  Luckily, his teething seems to be over for the time being too.  He had another bottom tooth break through and a molar.

He was cheesing for me the other night

And I had to capture his first little curl.  His hair is getting long.

Decker at 13 months (a bit late)

Even though he is closer to 14 months than 13 months at this point, I decided to go ahead and do an update.  Since he has recovered from his cold and ear infection, Decker has been back to being the happiest guy ever!  He definitely keeps us on our toes because he is always getting into things, but he is so entertaining.  Here is what he's up to now:

  • Recently, he has started getting really into books.  He was never really that interested before.  Anytime we would try to read to him, he would just want to play with the books.  But now he brings books over to us to read to him quite often.  His favorite one lately is "Big Dog, Little Dog" by Dr. Seuss.
  • He really hasn't said any words yet, except for Mama and Dada.  But he can definitely understand us!  When we tell him it's time for nite-nite, he runs to his room and starts banging on the door.  And when we ask him if he wants a snack, he will run over to the gate to try to get down to the kitchen.  He also understands when I tell him to go get Shiloh because he will run to the gate to try to let her in.
  • He loves spinning in circles or circling around things and laughing at himself.
  • He really is getting good at throwing the ball.  When he's in his playpen, Scott will bounce one his bouncy balls into the playpen, causing him to giggle, then he will throw it back out.  He also loves throwing Shiloh's ball for her to fetch and kicking things around.
  • Another thing that makes him laugh is to dump out all of his big lego blocks and crawl  and/or walk through them.  He's also getting quite good with his legos and enjoys building things.
  • Unfortunately, he is also hearing the word "no" a lot these days.  But it's good because he is learning what it means.  For instance, when he takes his toys and starts banging them on the wall, we yell "no" a couple of times.  If he keeps on doing it, then I have to get up acting like I am coming over there to take it away, and then he usually will throw the toy down and then start fussing.  LOL.

As for us, we are still somewhat settling into our new schedule.  However, Decker absolutely LOVES his new daycare and his primary teacher, Mrs. Shannon.  It only took a few days for him to quit crying at drop off.  We are so thankful that we found such a fabulous daycare and that he loves his teacher so much.  Everyday his teacher fills out a paper listing what he ate that day, when his diaper was changed, his nap and a little write-up of what he did that day.  He has been napping great...for about 2 hours a day and some of his favorite meals at daycare have been tuna casserole and stir fry.  Here's one of his write-ups from last week:

Decker had a great day.  He enjoyed exploring bead necklaces.  He put them on me and himself, and he was hiding them in the sink (his favorite place to hide stuff.)  He also enjoyed smearing glue on his kitty for art and then sticking yarn on it.  It was funny watching him shake his hand to get the yarn off.  :-)  Have a great evening!  -Mrs. Shannon

And just a few pictures.

Decker's 1st birthday celebration

We decided to celebrate Decker's 1st birthday over the Christmas holiday, when more of the family could be there.  His birthday presents were kind of mixed in with his Christmas presents and then we did an ice cream cake and of course, his cake smash.  Since his birthday is only 10 days before Christmas, we're going to have to figure out a better way of celebrating it in the future so he doesn't get shorted!  The following pictures are a mix taken with my DSLR and point and shoot.  I'm sure you can tell which ones were which.  But I am glad to have them all!

Clapping after everyone sang to him.

He hated his birthday hat!

Ready for the smash cake

Not feelin' it...

so I thought I'd help him out

Christmas Day 2011

For Christmas day, we stayed at my parents' house with my brother Jason, and brother-in-law, Nathan.  Jason cooked an amazing dinner of pork, veggies, stuffing, mashed potatoes and rolls (I think that's everything.)  Dessert was pie! I'm trying to improve at food photography, but it's actually pretty difficult!  The strong overhead ambient lighting wasn't helping either.  I have started using these free sharpening presets from Pretty Presets and I love them.  A few shots from the day.

Christmas 2011: Post #2 Christmas Eve

For Christmas Eve, we went over to my brother and sister-in-law's house.  It was a great night of lots of food and a surprise appearance by Santa (aka Scott).  Scott and I played Rock Band for the first time.  I know, this game is totally old now, but we've never had a gaming system. I was able to get a new memory card for my camera, so I was back in full paparazzi mode.  I used my 50mm f/1.8 for these and also my Light Scoop.  Oh, and note: we always wear pajamas for Christmas Eve...we're not just all lazy.

Christmas 2011: Post #1

Finally getting through all our Christmas pictures.  The night of the 23rd, we opened presents with the family.  Good thing Decker's cousins were there to help him open up presents for the first time!  These were all taken with my point and shoot because when I went to power up my DSLR, I realized I had left my memory card at home in my card reader!  I was glad I had my point and shoot there.  Of course, Decker got way too many presents and our house is now starting to resemble a large playroom.

He loves clapping now, so all night long he clapped.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  We definitely did.  As you can imagine, I have tons of photos to upload, but I will be adding those in a separate Christmas post.  All I have to say is that I feel like I need to go on some sort of detox after all the delicious goodies I ate!

As the title of this post suggests, we've been having some messy problems lately.  Decker has had runny poop and sometimes diarrhea for the past week, but seems to be doing fine otherwise.  I did some research and read that as long as he's thriving, he probably just has some sort of little virus or something that will pass.  Well, I hope it does soon because he's had 4 blowouts in the last 3 days.  The last one coming at the most inconvenient time, while we were making the 3 hour drive back home from my parents' house.  We were up on the mountain pass and decided to just pull into a gas station parking lot so I could change him in the backseat.  Of course, once I had his diaper off and was wiping him off he decided to pee.  We had a change of clothes, but I didn't want to fiddle with him any longer, so went ahead and put him back in his carseat sans clothes.  I was so mad because we forgot to bring any sort of plastic bags, so we had to throw away his onesie to avoid the poop stench in our car.  (I'm really anal about keeping all pieces of his outfits organized.)  I take him in on Thursday for his 12-month checkup and if this poo problem is persisting, hopefully we can find a remedy.

We do feed him, I promise!

Pulling Himself Up and Life These Days

On Sunday, Decker started pulling himself up to standing!  I was able to catch it on video...and listen closely near the end, when he sort of says "mama." [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTE1gQGrKfU&w=640&h=360]

Here is another video from a little over a month ago when we tried giving him thicker baby food.  For once, he didn't like the food we gave him.  And I literally mean, once.

Besides Decker growing more and more everyday, life for us has been busy.  Scott is enjoying his new job and just last week switched positions and got a large raise (whoo-hoo!)  I have been busy job searching, so the two days each week that Decker is in daycare, I am usually out networking and having meetings with different people.  I am very thankful that I have had the opportunity to stay home with him since he was born, but have to say that the days he goes to daycare are welcome because I am enjoying getting out and getting my mind back into "career" mode.  Plus, I know he loves his teachers and has a blast at school.  However, I have no idea how we are going to juggle everything once I start working fulltime.

And now that it's fall (my favorite time of year), our weekends are filled with football and food.  I still have tons of pictures to get edited, but I've been in a bit of a photography slump and have been trying to figure out how to fit it in along with everything else.  But here's a family pic of us taken last week.
